Mentoring is one of the most powerful ways to shape the culture of an institution and one of the most rewarding things you can do as a faculty member. As a mentor in Finding the “I” in Influence, you are not just helping someone else advance. You are also strengthening your own career by developing others’ skills, expanding your perspective, and building connections across Pitt.
What Mentors Do
Mentors commit to meeting with their mentee once a month from October through May. Monthly meetings take place during a shared group lunch, making it easy to participate without a heavy time burden. Mentors also take part in the September Kickoff Event and periodic group feedback exchanges. You do not need a formal title to be a mentor. What matters is that you have navigated career advancement in academic settings and are willing to share what you’ve learned.
