Caryn Rodgers is currently and Associate Professor with dual appointments in Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She received two B.A. degrees in Psychology and Spanish with a minor in Information Systems and Statistical Analysis from the Pennsylvania State University. She earned a MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology, Child from St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY. She currently serves as a pediatric psychologist at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in Hematology, Oncology and Cellular Therapy Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Program. Where she has a particular interest in supporting adolescents/young adults (AYA) with SCD navigate the barriers, challenges and emotional burden of transitioning from pediatric to adult care. Her research interests are in promoting adolescent health and adaptive transitions to adulthood among Black and Latinx adolescents/young adults in low-income urban communities, specifically as it relates to mental health disparities, adolescent health risk behaviors (substance use, sexual risk behaviors), and chronic illness (sickle cell disease). She employs contextually relevant resilience/strength-focused models of intervention and engages mixed-methods and participatory approaches. Dr. Rodgers has completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School (Leadership in Education and Adolescent Health, LEAH) and Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health (W.K Kellogg Fellowship, Community-Based Participatory Research). She has served in leadership roles nationally for the American Psychological Association, the Society for Prevention Research and the Academic Pediatric Association. In her community she serves as a Girl Scout Troop Leader in the Heart of the Hudson Council.
