Career Education and Enhancement for Health Care Research Diversity (CEED) Program

Designed for fellows, postdocs, and junior faculty from underrepresented minority backgrounds with rigorous career development in a supportive, collegial environment

The Career Education and Enhancement for Health Care Diversity (CEED) Program is a career development fellowship designed for minorities who are underrepresented in academic medicine or the health sciences. This unique program provides Scholars with a solid foundation for a successful research career by offering skills training, networking, and mentoring through the following:

    1

  1. Monthly Seminars

CEED Scholars have an opportunity to present their research projects and receive critiques and encouragement in a collegial and friendly environment. Scholars’ presentations are complemented by expert talks designed expressly for CEED Scholars, on topics such as giving presentations, understanding funding opportunities, setting and meeting realistic goals, developing effective CVs, increasing productivity, networking, and negotiating your first job.

  2. 2

  3. Coursework

CEED Scholars also take courses that offer essential information for those in the early stages of career development. Courses provide instruction in grant proposal writing, scientific writing, ethics and the responsible conduct of research, and scientific management and leadership.

  4. 3

  5. Mentoring

These activities are further enriched by a comprehensive program of advising. CEED's Program Director and Executive Committee take an active role in ensuring that all Scholars are making adequate career progress. Each CEED Scholar will be assigned an executive committee member as a career advisor while they are in the program. In addition, CEED's Program Director will meet once with each of the Scholars and their primary mentors to set personalized goals for the Scholar.

For more information on eligibility, financial support, expectations, and curriculum see the Program Details page. (Note: The ICRE offers a second CEED program designed for medical students. Click here for more information about CEED II.)
