Almudena Veiga-Lopez, D.V.M., Ph.D.
Dr. Veiga-Lopez received her veterinary degree and doctorate from the Complutense University (Madrid, Spain) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan focused on the developmental origins of the polycystic ovarian syndrome. Dr. Veiga-Lopez served as the first Center Scientist of the NIH-funded P30 University of Michigan Center on Lifestage Environmental Exposures and Disease (M-LEEaD) and was the recipient of the coveted Transition to Independent Environmental Health Research Career Award from the National Institutes of Environmental Sciences (NIEHS/NIH). Currently, Dr. Veiga-Lopez conducts research and teaching on developmental toxicology. Her NIEHS/NIH-funded work focuses on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals with particular emphasis on placental and ovarian function. Her work includes in vivo, in vitro, and in silico studies of toxicity and endocrine disruption across the lifespan. The foundation of her laboratory is to mentor the next generation of professionals by providing equal opportunities. She has authored/co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and 6 book chapters. She has served on NIH study sections across three NIH institutes (NIEHS, NIGMS, and NICHD), as well as international grant panels (Canada, Spain, Ireland, Poland, and the UK). She routinely serves as journal reviewer in over 30 journals (Environmental Health Perspectives, Environment International, Endocrinology, Advance Science, etc), is an editorial board member of Toxicological Sciences and is an Associate Editor of Toxicology & Applied Pharmacoloy.
