ICRE Alum Dr. John Szymusiak Appointed to Leadership Roles in the Department of Pediatrics
Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics John Szymusiak, MD, MS, FAAP, was recently named the Associate Vice Chair for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) for the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Szymusiak joined the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in 2017 following completion of his Master of Science in Medical Education at the Institute for Clinical Research Education. In his new role as Associate Vice Chair, Dr. Szymusiak will work with the Department of Pediatrics Education Leadership Team to assess the educational needs and pursue a mission of creating a unified medical education home for developing and elevating education and scholarship in the department.
Dr. Szymusiak was also appointed as the Director of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Pediatric Clerkship. He previously served as the co-director for this program. "Dr. Szymusiak has truly capitalized on the training he received through the ICRE," said Medical Education Program Director Carla Spagnoletti, MD, MS. "By applying the skills he gained in teaching, research, and leadership, his productivity in academic medicine, at a very early stage in his career, has been outstanding. I'm delighted to watch his success." We congratulate Dr. Szymusiak on both of these new appointments and wish him the best in his new roles.
