Clinical Research Master of Science Trainee Completes Externship in Innovation

Linda Burkett, MD, a Medical Fellow in the Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery Program at the University of Pittsburgh, recently completed an externship with TransEnterix as part of the Master of Science in Clinical Research Innovation Track. TransEnterix is a medical device company located in North Carolina focused on digitizing the interface between the surgeon and the patient to improve minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Burkett’s externship with TransEnterix focused on the Senhance® Surgical System, which is the first digital laparoscopic platform. Dr. Burkett was involved in testing the latest advancements in robotic surgery and contributed to the marketing and social media strategy for these innovations. The experience provided real-life application of the skills and knowledge being developed during her master’s classes, further reinforcing many fundamental concepts of innovation and clinical research.

Dr. Burkett completed this externship as part of the Innovation Track in the Master of Science in Clinical Research Program at the Institute for Clinical Research Education. Mary Goldberg, PhD, oversees the Innovation Track and is happy to communicate with prospective trainees. For more information about this program, visit our program page.
