Dr. Utibe Essien Receives American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Young Investigator Seed Grant

Utibe R. Essien, MD, MPHM, has been selected to receive a Young Investigator Database Seed Grant to utilize data from Get With The GuidelinesĀ® (GWTG) for his research on the association of race/ethnicity and oral anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation. Dr. Essien is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, the CEED-II Program Co-Director and a trainee in the Career Education and Enhancement for Health Care Research Diversity Program (CEED).

Get With The GuidelinesĀ® (GWTG) is a hospital-based quality improvement program designed to close the treatment gap in cardiovascular disease, stroke, and resuscitation. This Young Investigator grant will not only allow Dr. Essien to advance his research by accessing and analyzing GWTG data, but will also be a stepping stone to future opportunities in research, collaboration and scientific advancement, as recipients will receive AHA/ASA National Level oversight as well as valuable GWTG Committee leadership and mentorship from key volunteer physicians.
