Research Education in Advancing Investigative Careers for Housestaff and Fellows (REACH) Program
This intensive 8-week program teaches fundamental skills of clinical research to physicians in UPMC-affiliated residency and fellowship programs. REACH is offered by the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE).
Why choose the REACH program?
REACH is ideally suited for medical professionals interested in participating in clinical research studies as an active member of a research team, or in gaining a better understanding of clinical research.
With only a 2-month commitment (July–August), REACH delivers essential clinical research skills via high-quality courses taught by the ICRE’s world-class faculty.
REACH is not a degree-granting program, so if you are a physician interested in becoming an independent investigator, the ICRE offers several degree programs that may be more suitable for you.
What does the REACH program entail?
REACH training is rigorous, requiring trainees to guarantee at least 75% protected time while in the program.
REACH courses:
- Are taught in a flipped format, with trainees watching video lectures ahead of class
- Allow for greater flexibility and more interaction in the classroom
- Are most effective when trainees are independently motivated and willing to take responsibility for their own learning
