Pitt Clinical and Translational Science Institute Presents

SPARK SUMMIT 2022

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Human Centered Design?

Human Centered Design (HCD) is an approach to problem-solving that puts people at the center of the design process. HCD uses highly visual, participatory methods to define the problem, foster empathy for those experiencing it, spark out-of-the box thinking, and find better solutions.

Do I need to have HCD training to attend the Spark Summit?

The Summit is designed for people who are familiar with HCD, but you do not need to have HCD training to attend. We encourage anyone curious about HCD to join us and learn more!

Are there options for remote attendance?

We would love to see you in person (remember – there is such a thing as a free lunch!) However, we realize in-person attendance is not an option for everyone, and we are happy to provide a Zoom link if you would like to watch the presentations in real time. Just email us at the address below to request the link.

Will the presentations be recorded?

Yes! All the presentations will be recorded and made available at this website within a month after the Summit concludes.

Is there any cost associated with attendance?

Not a cent! The Summit has been subsidized by Pitt’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and is free to all participants.

Will food be provided?

Absolutely. We will have bagels and coffee in the morning and lunch (on the Terrace if the weather allows). What a perfect opportunity to talk to like-minded people and find collaborators! Got a food allergy? Please indicate so on your registration form or contact us at the email address below.

Is the Summit open to people outside Pitt?

Yes! This is our first year, so we’re focusing primarily on building an HCD Community of Practice among researchers at Pitt. But we are eager to connect with people outside Pitt as well, and all are welcome!

Is the U Club wheelchair accessible?

Yes! The Thackeray Street entrance is easily accessible by wheelchair and there are elevators to the Summit venue. Please contact us if you or someone you know need additional accommodations.
