REINFORCE

The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) is excited to announce a call for participation in the REINFORCE (REmovINg barriers to successFul Opportunities and careeRs in health scienCE Research) Study, which seeks to address critical disparities in the biomedical research workforce.

Despite the proven value of diversity in enhancing innovation and productivity, students from historically marginalized groups remain significantly underrepresented in health sciences graduate programs.

The REINFORCE study, built on the successful Building Up program, aims to improve the graduation rates and research success of underrepresented graduate students in the health sciences by offering training in grant writing, networking opportunities, and leadership skills.

Through REINFORCE, our objective is to study the effectiveness and implementation of the Building Up Intervention among underrepresented graduate students, with the goal of identifying and overcoming barriers to successful program implementation.

Participating schools will be randomized to receive the Building Up intervention or wait-list control. The study will also include semi-structured interviews to tailor and maximize the program’s adoption.

By joining the REINFORCE study, your institution can play a pivotal role in enhancing diversity and equity in the biomedical workforce, contributing to a sustainable model that has the potential to be scaled nationwide and make a significant impact.
