Clinical Scientist Track
and International Scholars Program

The Clinical Scientist Track and the International Scholars Program are special tracks offered through the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Pittsburgh. During the 3-year training program, scholars complete clinical training in internal medicine, initiate a research career under the close supervision and guidance of experienced mentors, and develop the skills that are necessary to function as leaders in academic medicine and clinical investigation and as agents of change in their home institutions and internationally. All scholars have the option to enroll in the REACH Program.

In the Clinical Scientist Track, the goal of residents is to complete their research, present one or more abstracts at regional or national meetings, and prepare a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Through the International Scholars Program, graduates become eligible to sit for the American Board of Internal Medicine Certification Examination. Many of the program’s graduates have obtained competitive fellowship positions in leading programs throughout the United States.
